Germany - Fussen & Triberg
On March 16 Annie, Audrey and I left after class for southern Germany. We went to a small town called Fussen which is about 10 minutes away from Neuschwanstein Castle. Our hostel was pretty nice. The hostel was in the house of the owner. He picked us up and brought us to our hostel, gave us free beers, and even brought us our breakfast up to our room in the morning. In the morning we woke up to the Austrian Alps out of our window. Amazing! So after breakfast we walked to town and took the bus to Neuschwanstein. The castle was beautiful along with the hills and mountains around it. We decided to take a horse drawn carriage up to the castle because it was really snowy and slippery, and we didn't want to be cold for the rest of the day. We took the tour of the castle which was really interesting. King Ludwig lived there for only a short time before he died. Only 20 out of the 60 rooms were finished because they stopped all construction on his house once he died. It was beautiful though. There were swans everywhere throughout the house. We were hoping to walk to Mary's Bridge when we were finished with the tour because that is where you can get amazing of the castle. However, the path to the bridge was blocked off because of all the snow. If we had snow shoes and snow poles we could have done it but we didn't feel like risking our lives for a good picture. Friday night we went back to our hostel and played cards and watched the only english channel on tv...CNN. We stopped by the market to get some food, wine, and some stuff for mixed drinks. So we celebrated St. Patricks Day in our hostel playing cards. It was a good night.
Saturday we left for Stuttgart which is where we spent the night because it was a central location for where we were going on Sunday. We stayed in...not a hostel...but...A HOTEL!!!! :) A Holiday Inn. It was fantastic. We had clean white bathrooms, big comfy beds, and we got the movie channels. We were so excited. Too bad it was only for one night.
Sunday we left pretty early in the morning, and to my amazement we actually got to the train on time :) Off to the heart of the Black forest we went. Triberg...a small town. We got off the train and Annie and Audrey looked at me like, "why are we here? What is there to do?" it didn't look very promising when we got off the train, but it was nice. We got to see Germany's highest waterfall and look in cute souvenir shops full of cuckoo clocks. This was one of the main towns that made cuckoo clocks from the Black Forest wood.
Once again, it was a good weekend. But it was also nice to get back to Zwolle.
