De Kathedraal
This past weekend Audrey, Annie, Dustin and I decided to take our first trip to Belgium. Saturday morning we left Zwolle to go to Antwerp. Dustin told us about this Church that he wanted to see while we were there, so we went searching for it. We walked down the main shopping street and ate a little cafe along the way. The church was called De Kathedraal. It was builit in the 1500's and took over 200 years to build. It was amazing. We spent a while going through looking at all of the paintings and different places where people go in to pray to all of the different saints. It was beautiful. Then we decided to find our hostel while it was still light outside. We walked through the diamond district of the city. There was store after store of diamonds. It was crazy. Our hostel was also by a Jewish Synagogue so we saw a ton of Jews walking around in their traditional garb. The men had huge hats on their heads (which i thought looked like massive wheels of cheese), the long curls, shaved head and all black clothing. It was very interesting to see that. Our hostel was nice. We had a four bedroom room to ourselves. It was kinda in the ghetto but the inside was nice and clean. At night we went out to a restraunt which was supposed to be like spaghetti in the jungle. However, when we got there it was basically a bar with tables and pictures of grass and a few animals on the walls. The spaghetti was amazing though. After that we went back to our hostel and played skip-bo and Zigty. :)
Sunday we took a train to Brussels. We found the famous Manneken Pis, which Brussels is famous for. It is so tiny! However, there was a chocolate store right next door where we bought some amazing truffles. yummy... We also saw the big Justice Hall and we walked around the streets and markets. Dustin went to an art museum and us three walked down some really cute streets and shopping areas. It started to snow so we went and sat in this French Restraunt/Taverne. Annie and i ordered a cheap beer called Rodenbach while Audrey ordered a raspberry beer that was only .50 more than ours. Needless to say, our rodenbach was disgusting and Audrey's was delicious. Then around 5:00 we made our way back to Zwolle and got back to Zwolle around 11:00. We had to wait at different stations for a while which is why it took a while to get home. But all in all it was a good first trip. OH YEAH!!! Belgium Waffles and Belgium Chocolate is AMAZING!!!!!
