This past week our class took a trip to Prague and Berlin. We left on Monday morning by bus from Zwolle around 8:00 and got to Prague around 10:30. We stayed in hotel/hostel Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights. Tuesday we had a guided tour through the historical sections of Prague. We saw a castle that overlooked Prague and went down a street where Kafka once lived. I ate goulash soup which was actually really good. Czech Republic is very inexpensive. Thirty crowns is equal to one euro! After the tour Annie, Audrey and I went shopping for the rest of the day in Prague. There are a lot of Bohemian Crystal shops and authentic souveniers; such as hand made wooden toys or animals.
Wednesday we went to a castle a little bit away from Prague. It was really cool. They make wine in the cellar of the castle and we had a wine tasting. It was good. The rest of the day on Wednesday we could go around the city of Prague and see what we wanted. Wednesday night we went to a Black Light theater production called "Black Box". I guess that Prague is known for these kinds of theaters. It was really sweet. It was a combination of modern dance and miming.
Thursday morning we left Prague and went to Terezin, a concentration camp in Czech Republic. It was built a really long time ago and was used as a fortress. It was also used as a prison before WWII. At the camp we walked through an underground tunnel that was 500 meters long. All of the tunnels combined are a few kilometers long but we just walked through one section. It brought us out right by the execution sight. It was pretty heavy and hard to go through it but it was interesting. Thursday night we went to Berlin and played skip-bo at the hotel.
Friday we had a guided bus tour throughout all of Berlin. That was really nice. We got out at different spots such as Brandenburg Tor (Gate) and saw the hotel that Micheal Jackson hung his baby out of. There are statues of bears all over Berlin painted in different colors. So, i made Annie and Audrey sit on some of them so i could get pictures. After the tour we walked around Berlin and went in Ka De We, which is a big expensive shopping mall. It is insane to me that people pay 250 euro for a scarf. Annie, Shad, Audrey and i all wanted to see the Brandenburg Tor at night so we walked there after the tour. Then we had to take the tram back to our hotel. Aloisa warned all of us not to take the tram the wrong direction because it would take us to the opposite end of the city. Well...needless to say...we did take it the wrong direction. It was pretty funny though. So we got to dinner about 30 minutes late but it was a funny adventure which i will tell you all more about when i get home.
After dinner we left Berlin on the bus for home. We left around 10:15 and got back to Zwolle around 6:00 am. I slept basically the whole time but i was still exhausted from the week. When i got home i slept again until 11:30. It was a good trip all in all.
